SUKI SATURDAY

Hi and hola, I am Suki Saturday (or Saskia as my mom calls me) from the cold and windy North of Germany. To keep me warm I travel around the world and buy records or party with my friends. At a very young age I somehow stumbled into the mod, soul and sixties scene and figured out that those are just my kind of freaks. I am super happy that after visiting the festival for some years I am invited to the Mojo Workin‘ this year! I am not good with musical genres, so here are some of my sounds which I think have rhythm and give you the blues, but overall I hope they make you find your mojo on the dancefloor:

1. Mongo Santamaria – El Pussy Cat

2. El Gran Combo – Chua Chua Bugalú

3. Trade Martin – Sixteen Tons

4. Joanie Somers – Why Don’t You Do Right

5. Clyde McPhatter – Ta Ta

6. Barbara Dane – I’m On My Way

7. Ronnie Hawkins – Southern Love

8. Roger & The Gypsies – Pass The Hatchet (Part I)

9. B.B. King – Long Gone Baby

10. Don Adams - Identity

Sr. VARO

PHIL DICK

At the time of the event I will be 56 years old and it will be almost exactly 41 years since I attended my first ever all-niter. Which was the Oldies Anniversary at the famous (or infamous) Wigan Casino. I was hooked from the moment I entered the building. I have always liked listening to new (to my ears anyway) records and avidly seek out new sounds. During the 80’s and 90’s I would travel to the USA four or five times a year hunting those elusive records. My real passion is Detroit and Chicago 60’s soul in  particular. I also have a love of The Motown Sound. So much so that my wife, Kim, and myself were married at Hitsville USA. The first people to ever be married there. Martha Reeves caught Kim’s bouquet and subsequently became Godmother to our daughter Tamla. I have been DJing on the scene seriously for over 30 years and have been running soul events just as long. The first all-niter I ran was Bradford Queens Hall from 1987 to 1990 and I have subsequently promoted all-niters and weekenders all over the UK. I currently now co-promote the legendary Cleethorpes Weekender. The longest running soul weekender, which celebrates its 27th Anniversary in 2019. I also promote Detroit A Go Go, which is a 5 day music festival in Detroit with over 20 live acts! Detroit A Go Go was conceived by myself and my wife over 20 years ago, and the first event finally took place in 2017. I have licensed and released a number of 60’s and 70’s soul tunes on limited edition vinyl, and that continues to this day. Besides my wife, family and Huddersfield Town, soul music is my main passion in life.

My top 10 is very difficult as it changes fairly frequently but the first 3 haven’t changed in decades, and still feature in most of my sets

1. Don Gardner - Cheating Kind (Sedgrick)

2. Court Davis - Try To Think What You’re Doing (East Coast)

3. Eric Mercury - Lonely Girl (Sac)

4. The Poets - Wrapped Around Your Finger (J2)

5. Larry Wright - Sweet, Sweet Kisses (A Go Go)

6. Jacket Beavers - I Need My Baby (Revilot)

7. The Lovers - Without A Doubt (Frantic)

8. The Fantastic Four - As Long As I Live I Live To Love You (Ric-Tic)

9. Ronnie McNeir - Isn’t She A Pretty Girl (Deto)

10. Topics - Have Your Fun (Dream)

JULEN BLAKA
